Japandi – Calm, Balance & Good Craftsmanship

The natural harmony of the Japandi style is particularly linked to the long-standing cultural ties between Denmark and Japan. It is a relationship of mutual influence that started over 150 years ago, when Danish architects, artists and designers began traveling to Japan to find new inspiration.

They were among the first Westerners to visit the country, which had only recently reopened its borders after 220 years of isolation. Many believe that the early Japanese influence can be seen in today's Danish ceramics, furniture, open floor plans and minimalism. And the popularity of Danish design in Japan over many decades shows that the admiration is mutual.

In addition, the two countries share respect for innovative design, good craftsmanship and natural quality materials. Robust wood and comfortable cotton are the supporting elements, fused with both Japan's "wabi sabi" philosophy and Denmark's "hygge" traditions, which together create the framework for coziness and presence in deep appreciation of simplicity.

Japandi is the hottest interior design trend of the time, a hybrid of Japanese and Scandinavian aesthetics. The look is minimalist, funktionmalty, warm and serene with hints of wabi-sabi inspired imperfection. We've put together some tips to help you bring the Japandi style into your home. But why are the two styles really so good together?

How to Take Care of Yours Karup Design Products

Futon

If the filling in your futon is sunken or pressed down, you can turn the futon upside down to restore the shape of the filling. You can turn the futon regularly for optimal maintenance.

If you get a stain on your futon, you can clean it with a damp cloth and a small amount of clear washing-up liquid (but not on linen or cotton fabrics, as these will leave stains). Futons are not water resistant, so do not rub the cloth against the cover, but instead gently dab the area for dirt. Finally, use a clean and unstained cloth to dry the area.

Wood materials

Wood is a living material and is thus affected by cold, heat and moisture. It is therefore to be expected that pine wood surfaces will change over time, because they are made of natural raw materials. For optimal maintenance of your wooden materials, you should:

– Do not place hot objects on the furniture

– Do not put candles directly on the furniture

– Immediately dry any spilled liquids from the furniture

– Regularly check whether screws and fittings are tight
