What is Kapok

Kapok is a silky soft natural fiber. It originates from the seed capsule of the kapok tree Ceiba pentranda. The trees grow wild in the tropical rainforests of South and Central America, India and in the western part of Africa. In several places, the tree is considered sacred due to its majestic height of up to 70 metres. In fact, a Mayan legend tells that the sacred tree grows right up to the gods in the sky. But to avoid people from them, the gods made sure to cover the lower part of the trunk of the kapok tree with thorns.

What makes kapok so great?

Kapok is an organic cellulose-based fiber with a thin layer of wax around it, which makes the fiber water-repellent. 80% of the kapok fiber's structure consists of small cavities, which help to make the fiber incredibly breathable and heat-regulating to sleep with. If you have trouble sweating or getting too hot at night, then kapok is the best choice for you. The water-repellent wax of the kapok fiber means that it instead transports the moisture away from the body, and you will therefore find that your mattress, duvet and pillow remain dry throughout the night!

Kapok is an incredibly fine and fragile fiber that feels incredibly soft. But unfortunately the fiber breaks easily and is therefore not suitable for goods by the metre.

What is Corn Fiber?

Maize fiber is the first man-made fiber to emergestillone of a 100% recyclable resource. The fiber is a natural plant-based biopolymer fiberstillone of lactic acid extracted from the plant sugar in the starch of the corn plant during its fermentation process. The fiber therefore only contains naturally degradable and recyclable raw materials. The fiber thus forms part of a repeating circuit. Either by recycling, or being broken down into organic material, which thereby becomes a resource for something completely different.

This new unique biofiber is our green answer to today's synthetic and oil-based plastic fibers. Synthetic and plastic fibers cannot be broken down naturally nor can they be recycled optimally, and thus the fibers are a burden on the planet and us as its inhabitants. The natural cycle of the corn fiber contributes to a simple and circular production. It protects the same nature from which our raw materials originate and which we all share.

Self forwardstillnone of the corn fiber actually requires as much as 68% less fossil fuels than firewoodstilling of a common synthetic fiber, and due to its production, the corn fiber is described as the first greenhouse gas-neutral polymer fiber ever created.
